Supervisor Adams Gets $82,000 Union Boost in Re-Election Bid

Employee and union groups have pumped more than $82,000 into the campaign to re-elect Supervisor Susan Adams, campaign finance documents disclosed this week.

The documents indicate Adams has collected $60,923 in contributions this year, including $10,000 from Civic Center employee groups, and spent $51,305.

In addition, the SEIU United Healthcare Workers West Political Action Committee, an independent expenditure committee campaigning for Adams' re-election, reported spending more than $72,000 so far on polls, consultants and a flurry of political mailers. The mailers included a controversial "hole-in-the-head" piece last weekend.

In all, spending on Adams' behalf totaled more than $123,000.

In contrast, former Assemblywoman Kerry Mazzoni, whose platform includes sweeping reform of the county's costly pension system, reported contributions to date of $85,701 and spending of $77,109.

Mazzoni's key contributors include business and construction interests in San Rafael, such as the Marin Builders Association, which gave her $5,000. Mazzoni is a lobbyist and the association is among her clients.

The campaign documents filed Thursday with the county Registrar of Voters include cumulative contributions and spending to date this year, while breaking out figures for the period March 18 through May 22.

Unlike the independent expenditure committee boosting her campaign, Adams reported all contributors, including those who gave less than $100. The union committee noted that disclosure of donors to its fund was not required because all contributed less than $100. Mazzoni also did not identify donors of less than $100.
